Bredon

The church was probably founded around 716 when King Æthelbald of Mercia (d.757), gave land to his kinsman Eanwulf the grandfather of King Offa (d.796), to found a monastery.  For some time, the manor of Bredon continued under an abbot of its own, probably being the Breodune under Abbot Eanmund who exchanged land in Tompeordin with King Berhtwulf for special privileges in 844.  Later the church was held by the bishop of Worcester before 964 and remained so until the Reformation.
