Kirby Underdale

Above the pointed nave arcade arches are the remnants of the tops of a Romanesque window.  The stonework beneath and partially underlying these is a course, irregular herringbone.  The chancel arch is a flattened Romansque arch, probably of Anglo-Saxon date, as too is the tower.  Above the tower arch is a blocked first floor doorway which also points to an Anglo-Saxon construction date.  The tower also has a fine Romanesque west door.  The top storey is later and set upon a curious moulded string course with a chamfered offset above.
