Stretton Baskerville Church

Stretton Baskerville was another vill held by the Mortimers of Wigmore probably from 1075. The Mortimers obviously lost control of the vill during the Anarchy when this area supported King Stephen and Hugh Mortimer (d.1181) was forced into alliance with the Angevins.  In 1166 Ralph the son of William Baskerville was said to be lord of the vill. In 1474 the lord of the manor depopulated his vill and the church rapidly disappeared. Trial excavations have discovered its site, but no plan has been recovered.
