Byton Church

Byton was a small settlement held by the Mortimers of Richards Castle during the thirteenth century. The original church has now gone, being replaced by a small Victorian church next to the site of Byton castle in the now almost extinct medieval hamlet. An ancient tympanum depicting a lamb and cross between Celtic knots survives from the early era built into the south wall.
