Caergwrle or Hope
It is uncertain when the castle was founded, but it is generally
attributed to the work of Prince Dafydd ap Gruffydd after 1277.
The castle was badly damaged by fire when King Edward I and Queen Eleanor had to flee the fortress.
Description
Inside a hillfort Caergwle castle consists of two D shaped towers set
at odd angles within an enceinte which had a large round tower as a
keep on an isolated boss of rock.
