Santo Stefano Medio
The castle was possibly the S. Stefano in Cefalu diocese held by John Caltagirono of Misilmeri in the late 1320s.
Description
The castle is located on a slight rise in the outskirts of Santo
Stefano Medio, a few miles south of Messina. It consists of a
30' square tower standing some 50' high. This is surrounded
by a pentagonal ward with the apex facing south and protected by a
polygonal tower. The entrance, probably an internal
rectangular gatetower, lies just northeast of this. The north wall
has a round tower at each corner which appears to have very modern
upper storeys.
