Lochmaben
Earl Andrew Harclay of Carlisle met King Robert Bruce
here on 3 January 1323 and negotiated a personal peace treaty without
the knowledge of King Edward II. As a consequence the earl was
taken by men loyal to Edward and soon after executed.
