Pentrefoelas Castle

The site of the castle would appear to be a scarped, elongaged natural knoll that now carries little evidence of fortification, although there are several clusters of river washed rock on the summit.  These probably could not have got here naturally and so suggest that there was once a stone wall atop the hill.

The castle was apparently held by troops loyal to Dafydd ab Owain (d.1203) against the forces of Llywelyn ab Iorwerth (d.1240) in 1194.  Like nearby Tal y Cafn castle it was destroyed.
