Gwydir Castle

It is commonly reported that Gwydir castle was founded in the sixteenth century by the Wynns who were known as the Wynns of Gwydir.  Although called a castle Gwydir is really a manor house.  It would also seem to be synonomous with Trefriw castle which is attested from before 1240.

According to Leland Trefriw (Treurewe) castle was '(a mile from Conway abbey) where Llywelyn lay that married Jane, King John's daughter.  It stands on the Conway and Trefriw rivers.'
